Festal Celebration of Archimandrite Seraphim's Namesday
On Friday the 31st of July and Saturday the 1st of August, the brotherhood of the Hermitage of the Holy Cross joyously celebrated the feast day of St. Seraphim of Sarov with an Akathist and Divine Liturgy. This feast is dear to the hearts to the Hermitage brethren not simply as it is the Name Day of their abbot, Archimandrite Seraphim, but because St. Seraphim stands as a luminary of the Russian Church and a guide for monastics in these last days.

Bright Monday - Installation of Archimandrite Seraphim as Abbot of Holy Cross Monastery, Ordination of a New Hierodeacon & Departure of Bp. George
On Monday April 13th, the festive day of Bright Monday, the clergy of Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV, led by His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, celebrated a festal Divine Liturgy. A multitude of Orthodox faithful and clergy from areas surrounding the monastery came for this Liturgy and the festive meal following in order to bid farewell to Bishop George, as this was his last Divine Liturgy at the monastery before leaving for his new appointment as Bishop of Canberra in the Diocese of Australia & New Zealand. His Grace departed for Australia on the following morning, April 14th.

Appalachian “Old Christmas”

The people of Appalachia, with whom we at the monastery share a home in West Virginia, are a people who have been Protestant for many generations past. Though they aren’t Orthodox, and though many of their ancestors in America may never have been exposed to the Orthodox Church, they are people who, in their own way, hold a deep faith in God and have preserved many traditions that hearken back to ages past.
