Transfer of the Remains of Hieromonk Kallistos
On Tuesday, March 1, the Hermitage of the Holy Cross welcomed home its founder, Hieromonk Kallistos (Pazalos). Since the monastery’s relocation from House Springs, Missouri to the hills of West Virginia, it has been the dream of the brotherhood to reinter Fr. Kallistos at the new monastery property so that its founder would at last be at rest amongst the brethren of the monastery which he founded.
On Monday, March 1, the remains of Fr. Kallistos were disinterred and carefully relocated to the monastery where Fr. Kallistos was greeted by the Hermitage brotherhood amidst ringing bells, icons, and incense, in a procession led by the monastery’s abbot Archimandrite Seraphim.
At the gravesite, Archimandrite Seraphim led the entire monastic community in singing a pannykhida for Fr. Kallistos. Archimandrite Seraphim co-served with monastery clergy: Hieromonk Andrew, Hieromonk Hilarion, Hieromonk Gabriel, Archdeacon Sergius, and Hierodeacon Paisios.
A memorial meal followed that evening in honor of Hieromonk Kallistos.
